In one of my final friend profiles, I am so excited to introduce you to my buddy Dr. Lydia Tobia! Dr. Lydia literally has one of the biggest hearts that I know which will serve her well as she will be spending the rest of days taking care of ALL the kids as Pediatrician! Born in Egypt but raised in NYC, Dr. Lydia is excited to be staying close to home while she completes her Pediatrics Residency and Cooper University in New Jersey. Somewhat following in her Father’s footsteps, Dr. Lydia excited and grateful to becoming a physician. Her father had a career as a surgeon back home in Egypt before migrating to the States and then he eventually successfully sat for Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 before completing a second residency in Anesthesia. She states that it was “his determination and drive to get through all of that for a career in medicine that really inspired [her]” especially while taking care of a family. As she got older, Dr. Lydia was able to take the lessons learned from her father, her own growing appreciation for medicine, and eventually embraced that it was also her calling to help others “physically, mentally, and emotionally at their most vulnerable moments”. From being birthed in a car up until now, her life has been filled with adventure and obstacles both big and small. Like many of us, she has a keen understanding that “success comes through obstacles and failures no matter who you are and success in medicine does not come from a certain amount of intelligence, but through hard work, perseverance, and the grace of God”. She truly believes that we are all capable, good and smart enough to succeed but you must not give up. Getting to know Dr. Lydia over the past four years has truly been a privilege. She has met every obstacle head on and never giving up her faith in God. She has one of the kindest and purest souls I have ever met, and I know that the determination and dedication that she will provide to all the children will allow her to make her own amazing impact as Dr. Tobia.
